Penalty kicks decide Cup game, Boleslav wins

The Ondrášovka Cup final was played in Jihlava. In number and in noise the Olomouc fans had the upper hand. About seven hundred fans came from Mladá Boleslav to Vysočina in ten buses and a number of passenger cars.

The busiest runners on the pitch in the first minute were members of the local fire brigade who had to eliminate flares that were thrown into various corners of the full stadium. Within five minutes Boleslav had already managed to defend one corner kick and win two themselves. The second one resulted in Kúdela being carried from the battlefield on a stretcher with concussion, and the Olomouc goalkeeper was treated for quite a while. Kúdela was replaced by Procházka; Drobisz continued with a bandaged head.

It did not take long before Boleslav showed its offensive power. Opiela sent Kulič on a fast break in the 19th minute, but he failed to finish the move. An attack on the right wing in the 25th minute ended with Opiela, and Chramosta's attempt at glancing the ball in the correct direction failed. After Mendy's penetration in the following minute, Kysela centered for Chramosta, whose scissor-kick flew inches above the crossbar.

After the break the Boleslav players immediately went on the offensive and Chramosta earned a corner kick which failed to threaten Drobisz. The tough fight moved into the midfield in the coming minutes. After a corner kick by Kulič in the 56th minute Boleslav's chance was marred by the referee, having strictly punished an offensive foul.

Hořava ran half of the pitch in the 59th minute, cut through the middle of the Boleslav defence and beat an exposed Miller - 1:0. Olomouc beat the Boleslav's goalie for the first time in four hours of game time in this year's competition (not once in the previous two matches). Boleslav won a corner kick right after that, but couldn't even the score. Táborsky's free kick in the 66th minute was headed over the goal by Rolko.

After Procházka's long throw-in in the 72nd minute, Chramosta was fouled by Vepřek in the penalty box, and the referee Kovařík did not hesitate to order a penalty kick. Táborský placed his penalty inside the left goal post - 1:1.
In the final fifteen minutes both teams started from scratch again, being the same distance from the trophy. Opiela found Řezníček in front of the Olomouc goal in the 86th minute, but the referee whistled him offside. For the same reason Petr's break at the other end was stopped.

The referee added just one minute of stoppage time, but this was not enough to decide a winner. It was time for penalty shootout. The Olomouc team took the first kick.

Mladá Boleslav won the Czech cup for the first time in its history, and as winner of the Ondrášovka Cup, qualified for the third preliminary round of the European League. Boleslav returned to European soccer after a three-year break; it had previously played in the 2006 and 2007 European cups.
